Innovative AI technology
for dentistry

Imaging, in particular radiological procedures, have supported dental diagnostics for decades. Artificial intelligence (AI for short) can automatically evaluate digitized dental X-ray images in a matter of seconds – with dentalXrai now also in everyday practice use.

Standardized high-quality analysis

Time savings in reporting and documentation

Optimized patient communication

dentalXrai technology

To develop dentalXrai, the team fed annotations from tens of thousands of X-ray images into the artificial neural networks to train the AI. The resulting algorithms detect, localize and classify various dental abnormalities and other findings.

The results are displayed visually in the form of a graphical overlay along with the radiograph and are summarized in a tooth chart and list of detections. The application allows the user to filter the results and thus supports the user to inspect the detections. The user is provided with useful functions such as adding, deleting, correction, and modifying detections. In addition, the user can move a tooth or even a row of teeth, view and change the location and depth of caries. Once the user has completed the evaluation, a report can be generated.

dentalXrai – Features

The dentalXrai software analyzes bitewing, periapical, and panoramic radiographs using a set of artificial intelligence-based algorithms to assist in the detection of radiological abnormalities (caries, periapical radiolucency, dental calculus, and periodontal bone loss), and other findings (dental fillings, dental crowns, dental implants, dental bridges and root-canal fillings, proximity of lower molars to mandibular canal, and impacted teeth). The localization and classification of teeth is used for tooth charting and reporting.

DentalXrai Pro is intended for use on 2(D)-dimensional radiographic imagery (panoramic, bitewing and periapical radiographs) and allows the evaluation of:

  • Caries
  • Periapical radiolucencies
  • Periodontal bone loss
  • Dental calculus
  • Crowns
  • Fillings
  • Implants
  • Root canal fillings
  • Bridges
  • Impacted teeth
  • Proximity of lower molars to mandibular canal
  • Tooth numbering
